Les \u00e9l\u00e8ves d\u00e9couvrent les gravures des soldats am\u00e9ricains.<\/p><\/div>\n

En Normandie, pendant la seconde guerre mondiale, les camps cigarettes \u00e9taient des camps avec des noms de cigarettes Am\u00e9ricaines. Ils servaient de camps interm\u00e9diaires (camps qui servaient d\u2019escale aux soldats qui partaient au front ou revenaient).<\/p>\n

Il y a 5 camps cigarettes, dont Le Twenty Grand. Le Twenty Grand \u00e9tait situ\u00e9 \u00e0 St Pierre de Varengeville pr\u00e8s d’H\u00e9nouville. Les premiers soldats Am\u00e9ricains apparurent \u00e0 l\u2019automne 1944. En novembre 1944, des Am\u00e9ricains investissent le ch\u00e2teau \u00abLe Breton\u00bb puis, en d\u00e9cembre 1944, le camp fut mis en place et en premier ! Il comptait 2000 parfois 3000 hommes dont du personnel Fran\u00e7ais, et mesurait plusieurs dizaines d’hectares.<\/p>\n

Richard Cauble<\/h3>\n

Les \u00e9l\u00e8ves du cm2 d’H\u00e9nouville et leur instituteur Thierry Coz ont retrouv\u00e9 un des soldats am\u00e9ricains qui avait grav\u00e9 son nom et son \u00e9tat sur un arbre de l’ancien camp Twenty Grand : Richard Cauble.Ils ont retrouv\u00e9 son adresse \u00e0 l’aide d’Internet. Richard Cauble n’avait pas de connexion Internet. Ils ont donc contact\u00e9, au hasard, quelqu’un qui habitait la m\u00eame rue que lui. Ce voisin, Jos\u00e9 Luis Gonzales, radio amateur, s’est passionn\u00e9 pour cette histoire. C’est lui qui est all\u00e9 chez Richard Cauble faire l’interview qui avait \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9par\u00e9 en classe. Par la suite, c’est le fils de Richard Cauble qui est devenu notre interlocuteur. Il nous a envoy\u00e9 la photo de son p\u00e8re et a organis\u00e9 la rencontre t\u00e9l\u00e9phonique. <\/em><\/p>\n

Richard Cauble a pass\u00e9 trois jours au camp Twenty Grand en 1945. Il habite \u00e0 Big Spring au Texas. Nous l’avons appel\u00e9 au t\u00e9l\u00e9phone, il \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s \u00e9mu de cet appel. Il nous a demand\u00e9 de rechercher la trace du nom de son ami Jack Skanner.<\/p>\n

– What was his war route before and after the Twenty Grand Camp.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr.. Cauble started from New York, New York, by ship to South Hampton, England then to Portsmouth, England to LeHavre, France and then to Twenty Grand Camp. His company was there for two or three days and then moved on to Northern France (above Paris) through Brussels, Belgium, Liege, Belgium to Aachan, Germany to Koln, Germany. He then continued on east to Kaizerlaurtern, Germany.<\/p>\n

– Does he get memory about the Twenty Grand Camp.<\/span><\/p>\n

I remember an overhanging cliff with dwellings inside and underneath (much like the Pueblo American Indians.) I remember that there were several \u00ab\u00a0tent\u00a0\u00bb camps thru out the region all named after cigarette brands of that time. Mr. Cauble mentioned that he was a Sgt. and he was in charge of repair and maintenance of the company vehicles. He was also on detached duty to other units for repair and maintenance of their vehicles. M. Cauble est parti de New-York. De New-York, en bateau, \u00e0 Southampton (Angleterre) et de l\u00e0 \u00e0 Porthsmouth (Angleterre), puis Le Havre (France) et le camp Twenty Grand. Sa compagnie est rest\u00e9e l\u00e0 deux ou trois jours puis est partie pour le nord de la France, au dessus de Paris. Puis Bruxelles (Belgique), Li\u00e8ges (Belgique), Aachan (Allemagne) Cologne (Allemagne). De l\u00e0 il a continu\u00e9 vers l’est, \u00e0 Kaizerlaurtern (Allemagne).<\/p>\n

– A-t-il des souvenirs du camps Twenty Grand?<\/span><\/p>\n

Je me souviens d’une colline et des habitations dessus en dessous. (comme les Pueblos, villages indiens d’Am\u00e9rique.) Je me souviens qu’il y avait beaucoup de tels camps de toile dans la r\u00e9gion, ils portaient tous des noms de marques de cigarettes de l’\u00e9poque. M. Cauble pr\u00e9cise qu’il \u00e9tait sergent et qu’il \u00e9tait responsable de la r\u00e9paration et de la maintenance des v\u00e9hicules de la compagnie. Il \u00e9tait aussi d\u00e9tach\u00e9 pour la r\u00e9paration et la maintenance de v\u00e9hicules d’autres compagnies. M.
